CSUSB first introduced renewable energy production to the San Bernardino campus in August 2007 with the installation of 320 kW in two roof-top photovoltaic (PV) arrays.
In September 2010, two more arrays were added, providing the campus with a total capacity of 1.4 MW of solar power.
Each of these arrays was installed at no cost to the campus through a Solar Power Purchase Agreement (SPPA). With a SPPA, a third party installs, maintains, and provides 15-minute interval production data to the campus and the campus purchases the electricity as a monthly utility.
